Tutorial Tuesday: Bow Ear-Warmer

Whoo hoo guys! I was so excited when about two months ago I got an email from Havalah, blogger at Sisters, What!, asking me if I'd be interested in participating in a handmade-gift blog hop.
Was I?! I was! It's my first hop and I and I am pleased to see my project in such beautiful crafty-company! If you want to make your loved ones some great gifts this holiday season hop around at the end of the post for inspiration!

These crocheted bows take about two hours to make and keep your ears nice and toasty when the air is chilly. I was so excited the first day I got to wear mine and needed it. I got a bunch of compliments! Beautiful and functional, I love it! Fully photographed step by step instructions and pattern below!

I'm usually pretty honest with myself, I know I'm a procrastinator. Super-hardcore-could-probably-do-it-professionally-procrastination too, not just regular procrastination. Any other year you can bet when a week before Christmas rolls around I am running around like a chicken-with-my-head-cut-off trying to get presents done, having put it off until the last possible moment after finishing finals and all my Christmas rush shop orders. Now I've whipped up a few of these for some girl gifts in various colors and I feel a little ahead for once. Here's what you need to make your own!

Supplies:

  1. Yarn
  2. Scrap of Yarn (About 15 in.)
  3. J Crochet Hook (Depends on the size yarn you choose, the pattern may need adjusted for thicker or thinner yarns)
  4. Scissors
  5. Thick Needle

Step 1: Ch 12.

Step 2: Double crochet across the row. If you don't know how to do that check out this link! (For various kinds of learners)

Double crochet starts 2 loops from the hook, so you should have 10 st total

Step 3: For this step crochet as many rows needed for the band to fit the circumference of your head where you want to wear it. I crocheted 32 rows. Leave a tail for sewing.

Step 4: I joined the two ends of my ear-warmer with the whip stitch.

Step 5: Tie a knot using your scrap piece of yarn around the seam. Wrap the yarn around the band to create the bow.

When you are satisfied with how your ear-warmer looks you can use the needle to help you finish off the end.

I am unintentionally Christmassy in this picture. I was actually going with a Slytherin-inspired outfit that day and it's just luck that my best pictures from my photo-shoot happen to be in front of my cranberry front door.

I am LOVING that slight shimmer in the yarn! Even though its a tinsel-like substance the yarn is still super soft. I haven't had any problems so far with breakage nor did I have any trouble crocheting it. 10/10 would crochet again, and I'm dying for other small projects to do with it.

The fun doesn't stop there though! This is my first ever blog hop as I mentioned above and that means there are even more handmade present ideas to get started on early! You've got all this inspiration right at your fingertips, why not go ahead and get a jump start on that gift list?

Even though I think all the projects from this hop are wonderfully creative, I think my favorites are the knock-off Burberry bag and the framed mini wall hangings.  Those are must makes for me, how about you? Go check them all of and tell me your favorite below.

Til Next Time!

That little sparkly in the wool is lovely. Your pattern is simple and quick but looks great - perfect for gift making thanks.
