Tutorial Tuesday: Gold Leaf Headband

Fall has fallen! The weather has been wonderful here and I was inspired by all the leaves in my backyard to make today's project. A gold leaf headband!

Today's tutorial had to be made twice, the first one was a video tutorial but due to technological apocalypses that one is not useable so here is a photo one!

The good news is because I had to make the project twice I have two headbands so I'm giving one away to one of you! Learn more after the tutorial.

 Supplies:

  • Small amount of leather
  • Headband
  • Gold Spray Paint
  • E6000 Glue
  • A note card or scrap paper
  • A Sharpie
  • Scissors
Not Pictured (cause it was too tall)
  • Clear Coat Spray Paint

Step 1: Spray paint your headband and leather gold. Wait the recommended time for your items to dry.

Step 1.5: Give your headband a clear coat when dry. This will prevent the paint from rubbing/scratching off.

Step 2: Cut a leaf pattern out of your index card or scrap paper. I folded the card in half and made a leaf about 2 in. long and 1 in. wide at it biggest point.

Step 3: Using your sharpie trace around your leaf pattern on to the wrong side of the leather (the soft/fuzzy side). Do this 8 time to make leaves. Cut them out.

Step 4: Apply a thin line of E6000 down the middle (of the wrong side) of two of your leaves. Follow the pictures to see how to apply them.

Apply half of the leaf to the band.

Place the second leaf under the tip of the first leaf and press the second leaf half down. Repeat.

Now let the glue dry for at least 24 hours. Then feel free to rock your new accessory all you like!

  1. My favorite thing about fall is the challenge that it brings me as far as fashion goes. I've always been a pastel/dress loving girl (even before it was trendy!) so falling into fall is always a challenge for me. Lately I've been doing the coat+dress/skirt thing, and I think this head band is just the pop I need in the look!

  2. My favorite thing about the fall, is well the ever changing of the leafs colors. It's a great time to take amazing photos. I love the start of wearing all my boots, jackets, and sweaters. It's been too long since I wore them. c:

  4. My favorite thing about fall is the fact that you can technically wear everything. In summer, you can't wear sweaters because you overheat. But during the fall, you can wear both sweaters but also dresses. It's the best of both worlds, really.

  5. I love the cool, crisp air in the fall. The smell of the leaves and the air makes me ready to take a hike and drink a cup of hot chocolate.
