**This company is no longer in business**
To be honest I cancelled my subscription to Whimseybox early in June. I didn't do it because I wanted to, but when the start of my new job got delayed by two weeks that immediately made me nervous about money, so I had to sacrifice my box. Through some fluke on their end though (maybe they just love me!) I still received a box for this month. No complaints here!On the other hand, my roomie Vickie forgot to cancel her subscription (she only wanted to try it out) and so once more two boxes showed up to my house! Since Vickie didn't want hers that means I have an extra box, so this month one of you lucky readers can win your very own!
Now I'm already lucky to just be getting this box, but when I opened it up, I was even more surprised!
Laying on top of the usual contents was a beautiful drawstring bag that I instantly recognized from the Whimseybox shop. It could have been any of their wonderful crafting starter kits. Seriously, if you want to learn a new craft like leather working, paper crafting, or book binding they've got you set!
When I peeked inside I let out a little excited squeak! Isn't it a glorious comprehensive paper-crafting starter kit?
I was confused initially but when I asked the owner of Whimseybox she let me know that this had been an add-on available for pro-subscribers (people who get a 3 month or more subscription) to purchase if they liked. It was another error on their end, but it couldn't have happened to a better person she said. I felt a little bad that so much of their merchandise had come to me for free, but maybe I can help them by continuing to spread the word of this great company!
Anyway now onto the actual unboxing:
This month's artprint may seem a little weird if you arn't an avid trend follower. Pineapples are big right now. I am not sure where I stand on it, but Whimseybox is clearly loving it, as are many many of my blogger friends. I can appreciate the general fruit trend but I feel that my favorite fruits are drastically unrepresented. I'll just have to fix that won't I?
The art print doubles as the instructions for the craft. Pretty and functional, a crafter's dream. If you still can't figure out the craft with the instructions, the Whimseybox blog always has helpful tips and/or videos!
This box was a little smelly, neither of these two bottles had leaked, but the strong sharp smell does permeate the plastic.
I am a huge WWE fan, so I dig the Mr.T quote. This little folder holds your delicate gold foil sheets.
Yay! My favorite boxes are the ones where I get to try a completely new craft, since it is my life goal to learn how to make anything! Learning a new skill always helps further that goal.
- Wooden Frame

The Extras: - Crafty Achievement Pin

Now this craft seemed pretty easy, but I just had to go and make it super complicated for myself. The instructions urge you to try your own patterns so I decided I wanted to do stripes. Also the frame had to be purple. End of story. I'd been dying to try Mod Podge Sheers on wood so I used some leftover from my recycled flower vase tutorial. My gold stripes turned out a little bit wonky and...um weathered looking.
Now if I've made you want to try Whimseybox, you can sign up here and receive $5 off your first box (Trust me, you won't regret it!). If you want to try your hand at gold leafing you can find the links below to purchase the kits or the supplies from the Whimseybox shop.
Wait don't go yet! You still have the chance to win a copy of the box I just reviewed!
Here it is! Here is your grand prize:
You guys have two weeks to enter to win this wonderful crafty box! It should have everything in the "included in this month's box" section. It's unopened and ready to ship as soon as possible after I get the winners address.
This is an affiliate post, I was not compensated for writing this post. However if you make any purchases after clicking on the supply links I will be compensated. Thank you if you do, I'm not asking you too if you don't want to. :)
Til Next Time!
I am not sure yet! I just really want to try gold leaf!
ReplyDeleteFair enough! The inspiration will come when you've got the box in your hands, trust me! :)
DeleteAlso it's super fun!
I'd like to try a herringbone design on the frame!! Thanks for the give away
ReplyDeleteOhhhh I can envision that already Stephanie! Great pattern pick :)
DeleteYou're welcome! I'll pass that on to my room mate too since it was her box originally, shes just super awesome and donated it :)
Whimseyboxes really do sound awesome! I love how it's not necessarily just a craft to do, but more like a crafting skill to learn. ^-^ And I happen to love the "weathered" look of the gold stripes on your frame! I think I like it better than I would if it the edges were perfectly straight.
ReplyDeleteOh they are wonderful! I can't wait each month to get my box and learn something new :) Awww thanks! I agree, the more I look at it the more I really like the aesthetic I created on accident
DeleteYour frame is lovely, I actually really like the worn look of your not-so-perfect gold stripes.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to use some gold leaf to jazz up a picture frame like this!
Also, what is your favorite fruit, since pineapple isn't it? Just curious. :)
:) Thanks Katie! It was really fun and super quick (I love quick projects, I'm an instant gratification sorta gal) Good luck!
DeleteMy favorite fruits are kiwis and pomegranates thanks for asking :) I feel like they may not be as mainstream as pineapples are right now, but they could make some great crafts!
These boxes are awesome!!!! I've wanted try paper cutting for a long long time. The pineapple print is so so awesome - I've always loved them - they scream summer to me!
ReplyDeleteThe paper crafting kit was only sent to me on accident unfortunately, but if you win, you will receive all the gold leafing supplies! Glad you like the print :) I'd much rather eat them than decorate with them.
DeleteThat looks really fun! I love the idea of craft boxes for adults!
ReplyDeleteAmy it is a blast! Its also becoming a revolutionary idea, Whimseybox is a relatively new company, but so is Darby Smart, a craft box service as well. :)
DeleteI keep saying I'm going to try gold leafing - I've never done it. Your frame is beautiful and I love the Mr. T quote!
ReplyDeleteMaybe this will be just the jump start you need! I mean it would be difficult to put it off if everything you need just arrived at your house for free! :) Thanks and good luck Ali!
DeleteHow fun! I love the colors you chose for your frame :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a blast! Thanks, purple is my favorite color. So much so, that I sometimes feel I go overboard with it. XD
DeleteGold leaf looks awesome! I would love to be able to try it!!
ReplyDeleteIt is easier than I expected it to be! Good luck with the giveaway!
DeleteI've never heard of Whimsey Box, but now I definitely have to check it out
ReplyDeleteOh Havalah! They are a great company for creatives, and they even have a blogger program where you can post supply lists and earn commissions through peoples purchases, its called Whimseybox Influencer. Let me know if you'd like more information :)
DeleteI've always wanted to try a gold leaf DIY, thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Its a bunch of fun, good luck winning!
DeleteAaaaaaah I love your blog so much. <3
ReplyDelete:D thank you Mir! It loves you too XD (so do I) <3
DeleteI've always wanted to try a whimseybox because they seem so creative and fun so thank you very much for the giveaway! Since it is summertime, I would decorate the frame with gold, navy, and white stripes then add an anchor to the corner of the frame!
ReplyDeleteWhimseybox is great, it seriously makes my month. That frame idea is toooo cute! I can see it perfectly XD You're very welcome and good luck(I'd love to see your design if you win)!
DeleteI'd love to try gold leaf on something! not sure what yet. I've used liquid gold leaf which I absolutely love but the paper leafing has a slightly different look which I love!
ReplyDeleteThe inspiration will come to you! Ohhh, I didn't know they made a liquid version, that sounds even more easy to use! I'll have to check that out, thanks :)
DeleteI think I would like some delicate looking little scrolls in gold leafing on top of a black background! That would look elegant. I have never tried gold leafing, this would be fun!
ReplyDeleteI'll probably use the leftover gold leaf on another frame or to update some wooden desk knobs.
